The Sweet Look

The fun thing about this photo-shoot was playing up the bright eyes of the model. In discussing what we wanted to do with the shoot was get this classic sweet look. The first step was to do a nice soft makeup and the hair in the braided ponytail. Then looking through the outfits she brought, we decided on a few different dresses. For this part of the session, I wanted to use a pink backdrop and found that the black and white dress with a short skirt worked perfectly. The outfit and lighting allowed us to have some fun with the nice and innocent expressions and eyes she has, yet with a bit fun and naughty behind the eyes.

Overall, this was a really fun photography session where we experimented with different outfits, lighting, and ideas to get a lot of great looks.

1920’s Themed Photoshoot

The last time I did a photography session with Aline, we went with a retro 60’s theme. This time around we decided to move it back to a 1920’s themed photography session. The fun of themed photography sessions is that we get to play with different looks. And of course, since Aline is such a fun model we were able to come up with some great images.

For this one I wanted to do something a bit darker and moody.

This next one, in keeping with the dark look we decided to show off a little leg.

When people come into the studio they often think they have to smile in the pictures, but that is not always the situation. Sometimes a serious look has a wonderfully dramatic look to it.

Sisters

As the song goes, “Sisters, sisters There were never such devoted sisters,…” The lyrics by Irving Berlin were never so true when it came to these two girls who came in for a a Girls Day Out photography session. As you can see by the expressions on each others faces that even though they were yucked out every time I said give your your wonderful sibling a hug, the way they did it was so great. The session was a lot of fun for me to photograph, as we laughed a lot.

People often think that pictures have to be perfect or posed in some way, everyone looking at the camera, but that is not always the case. Some of the more fun ones and the ones that tell a story are those ones where we have fun and do hugs or other random things to get a laugh. It doesn’t work for everyone. In some families people are a bit more reserved and that is okay as well. Once I figure that out about them, the pictures I take lean more towards the more formal ones that they are looking for. In the case of these two girls that was not the situation, as you can see from this picture taken after I said the words, “give your sister a kiss on the cheek.” Sooo, great.

I also had the opportunity to play with different lighting and props and these two wonderful girls were plenty happy to play along.

She’s Our Rose of Dublin

A few weeks back they did the Rose of Dublin selection for the Rose of Tralee competition. One of the 24 finalists for the Dublin Rose was the wonderful Charlotte Madden. Not long ago I did a photo-shoot with Char where we primarily aimed for some black and white images. For the shoot I wanted bring out the contrast between the hair and eyes and the dark clothing and backdrop.

What I loved about this photography session was how her eyes were brought out with the makeup and the look she had on her face. Always with an intense expression that works perfectly for the poses and lighting.

Classic Style with Aline

When talking to Aline and learning a bit about her, I knew that when we did her photo session it would need to be a classic style. Aline runs a channel called Exploring Dublin. She will often attend themed events throughout the city such as masquerade balls and vintage themed parties to share. For her photography session I instantly knew we would need to follow the theme going for a 60’s era look.

She arrived with her hair done in this classic look and a great selection of outfits. For the look I usually don’t do a lot of post processing but for these I felt they should have a bit of a vintage feel to them, so I did a bit of sepia toning.

Mother, Daughter, and Disney Photo Session

When people come into the studio with props or t-shirts or anything else that we can use, I am super happy. In this case we had an opportunity for a Disney photo session. The daughter is a huge fan of the Disney theme parks and in visiting many of the parks she has acquired a few things like these ears and t-shirts.

During the photography session we had great fun with the mom and I couldn’t have been happier to get this photograph of her looking less than enthused while the Disney loving daughter is having a ball!

Excellent day and I hope you enjoyed your makeover and photography session as much as your photographer did.

Like all families I’m sure they have had ups and downs over the years, but it was truly wonderful to meet these two and the love they clearly have for one another.

Tough and Lovely Photography Session

When Aisling came into the studio for a makeover and photography session that her boyfriend had given her as a gift, she wasn’t quite sure about it. But as an actress, she figured she could use a picture from the session as a headshot. After we started talking, I found out that she also did stunt work and various martial arts. So one of the first pictures we did was this one of her showing me a kick.

After the actions shots the session moved into some great soft images where we got to play with the light and shadow. In the end we were able to get a lot of great photographs from the session.

Casting directors, if you are looking for an actress who can do her own stunt work this is your tough and lovely person.

Break a leg on your acting career!

Happy Sisters

We had these two sisters is for makeup, hair, and a photography session at the studio for what turned out to be a really fun time. Although, I did occasionally have to remind them that they are family and it is okay to put an arm around each other for a quick photograph.

“Like branches of a tree, we grow in different directions, yet our roots remain as one. Each of our lives will always be a special part of the other’s.”

– I am not sure where the quote comes from but I think it works.

Tea Time at D Studios Photography

Last weekend these three came in for a girls-day-out photo-shoot in celebration of one of their birthdays. I could tell from the first picture that it was going to be a fun session with lots of laughs. They are big tea drinkers so we setup a little table and decided to invite one of our stuffed toys to the part of tea time. The stuff one didn’t drink much but it sure makes a fantastic picture.

Of course after tea time you need to get your cowboy hat on and have a little fun as well.

Girls Day Out in Blue

Occasionally it is fun to get out the gels and play with lighting the studio backdrop. Thankfully we had the lovely April and her mother in for a girls-day-out photography session. After they spent some time with our wonderful makeup artist, we had a great fun shooting with different clothing styles and lighting setups. For these two shots we made it a day out in blue with the backdrop, which went really well with her dress and look.

You both were wonderful.
